The Electrification Alliance

Electricity for an Efficient and Decarbonised Europe

Electrification Alliance

We are an alliance of associations that firmly believes electrification is the future of the European Union’s energy system.

Electrification is the process of switching away from fossil fuels toward the use of clean and renewable electricity as the main source of energy for all our applications in society. Many sectors, such as transport, industry, buildings and heating & cooling can undergo the process of electrification. It is increasingly powered by renewable energy sources like wind and solar and supported by demand-side flexibility. Moreover, smart electricity grids make the system highly sustainable, dependable and efficient.

We can avoid the worst consequences of climate change. Electrification is built upon reliable and well-known technologies with shovel-ready solutions. There is no more time to waste on uncertain developments that won’t necessarily deliver what we need.

There are four fundamental reasons why electrification presents so many benefits and can have an extremely positive impact on the European economy and citizens.

Electrification means:

Rapid and sustainable growth for Europe
Decarbonising Europe and reducing pollution
Energy efficiency, consumer empowerment, digitalisation and innovation
Quality jobs across Europe

How can #EnergyIntensive industries increase their #competitiveness while contributing to the #CleanEnergy transition? That was our focus at the #EUSEW2021 debate on the application of the #EnergyEfficiencyFirst principle. It is encouraging to see support for a #system approach.

"The #GreenTransition is part of the solution. We have to invest in renewable energy sources and new technologies", says @JernejVrtovec. Which is the role of #electrification in this transition, on 17 Nov:
